Description
We are a values led organisation committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for our residents. Wiltshire is the 4th largest unitary council in England with a population of 500,000, including a significant proportion of military personnel. Wiltshire has a rich diverse heritage with areas of national and international interest such as World Heritage sites; Stonehenge and Avebury Stone Circles and Salisbury is notable for its medieval Cathedral.
Our Corporate Director of People brings together Adults and Children’s services who work closely together.
Whether your aspirations lie in children's or adults' services, you can build a life that has real balance at Wiltshire Council. We are perfectly placed to help you achieve your potential and enjoy a truly fulfilling career.
We continue to prioritise innovation and transformation to ensure our services adapt to meet the needs of our service users. In both service areas we have partnership transformation programmes with multiple pilot activities through DfE, Home Office, research organisations and universities. We are currently the only local authority in the UK piloting a 5th category for child protection, Risk Outside the Home (ROTH) Our Families and Children’s service is rated ‘Good’ and we want you to join us on our journey to ‘Outstanding’
In Adults we are embarking on an exciting programme to support an innovative co-production approach, where disabled people and front-line social workers will lead the work on redesigning services that support people to live their ‘good’ lives. Adult services have a variety of services and staff are supported to shadow colleagues and teams to develop their own practice. Specific teams are also involved with several research projects instigated through various universities that focus on contemporary Social Work practice.
CPD and wellbeing
At Wiltshire, we prioritise continuous professional development’ (CPD) across both children's and adult services. We have opportunities for all levels of practice, from ASYE mentors, reverse mentoring and coaching; to practice education, lecturing within our teaching partnership, developing training, or leading on innovation projects. Our career pathway includes various practitioner routes across both service areas, as well as a more traditional management route. We continue to support initiatives to develop our practitioners by using informed findings from our peer-to-peer thematic audits, service user and staff feedback as well as societal impacts. As part of the Training Strategy and CPD pathway, staff can reserve protected time on a monthly basis (through the CPD Pledge) to ensure that they have time to undertake training and CPD in line with their field of practice. There are also opportunities to undertake apprenticeships to support career development.
Ensuring the wellbeing of our staff is of paramount importance. We have a broad variety of wellbeing and health resources and an evidenced based trauma focused peer support system (TRiM) which recognises the support practitioners in this field of work require.
