Prevalence surveys suggest that 0.6% of the population are problem gamblers but even more are at risk. And for each of these individuals, 10-17 others including children and family members are affected. Problem gambling is linked to depression, suicide, debt, bankruptcy, family conflict, offending, domestic abuse, neglect and maltreatment of children making it central to social work territory.
