SPONSORED SESSION: The Mental Capacity Act: key principles and the 'big issue' - accommodation moves
Description

This session provides an opportunity to remind ourselves of the key principles of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and reflect on how they inform best practice when considering an accommodation move for someone – and why this is the ‘big issue’ in MCA practice. This session will also discuss accommodation moves for young people aged 16/17 (children) in transition.

This presentation will help practitioners explore and answer some of these practice issues and questions:

  • Why are accommodation moves such a big issue in MCA practice?
  • Assessing risk – whose decision is it anyway?
  • What is more important, safety or happiness?
  • What do I need to do differently to ensure that my professional work is characterised by best practice and legal compliance?
